Fatal bear attack suspected in Newton County, Arkansas

The Newton County Arkansas Sheriff's department is investigating a possible bear attack at a campground in that area on Thursday.

The body of a 60-year-old man found several yards away from his campsite had injuries consistent with a large carnivore attack.

The man had sent pictures of a bear in his camp to his family Tuesday morning.

The man's body has been sent to the Arkansas Crime Lab for an autopsy.

That lab will make a determination on the cause of death.

The Sam's Throne Campground has been closed by the U.S. Forest Service for the safety of the public.
