General Mills to close three Missouri plants, two in Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. — General Mills will close three Missouri manufacturing facilities, including two pet food plants in Joplin, as part of a multi-year restructuring plan announced Wednesday.
The closures, detailed in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, aim to enhance supply chain efficiency and reduce costs following the company’s $1.45 billion acquisition of Whitebridge Pet Brands in December 2024.
The Joplin facilities, which produce Tiki Pets and Cloud Star products, and a St. Charles plant manufacturing pizza crusts for General Mills’ North America foodservice division, are slated to shut down by July 2026.
The move consolidates production to other sites, addressing declining pet food sales and broader market challenges. General Mills projects $82 million in restructuring costs through fiscal 2029, including $17 million in cash, $43 million in asset write-offs, and $6 million for severance and related expenses in the second quarter of 2026.
General Mills expects to finalize its restructuring by the end of fiscal 2029. For more details, visit generalmills.com.
