Missouri Southern to Host STEM Discovery Day for area students

JOPLIN, Mo. — Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) will welcome over 215 high school students from across the region for STEM Discovery Day on Friday, Oct. 3, offering them an opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics through hands-on activities.
The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the MSSU campus.
Students will attend up to three sessions (from nine options), which will each introduce a STEM field through interactive demonstrations and facility tours.
Popular sessions will include biochemistry and medical laboratory sciences, biomedical sciences, and forensic chemistry. These sessions will have activities such as a liquid nitrogen ice cream demonstration and solving forensic mysteries.
Other available sessions will feature topics such as microbiology, genetics, conservation biology, environmental health and safety, industrial engineering, automation, food science, and applied mathematics.
