Joplin 2026 budget workshop meetings this week at city hall

Want to know what is being spent by the city of Joplin in the new budget?

The city council will be having 2026 budget workshop meetings Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights this week starting at 5:45 each night.

Mayor Keenan Cortez told KZRG:

“It is every dollar that the taxpayers have paid into their taxes. It comes to the city. It’s every expenditure that is planned to be made with those dollars that come in. There is nothing hidden.”

Mayor Cortez went on to say:  “It is all right here. I have three different books that are probably, I don’t know, what did you say, two and a half inches thick easily here. And we are going to go through them tonight, tomorrow night and Wednesday night, line by line, item by item, to flush it out.”

According to the Joplin Mayor:  “Here’s where the money’s coming from. Here’s how we’re gonna plan on spending it. Here’s how we’re gonna deliver services to the citizens of the city of Joplin. No, nothing hidden here. All out and open. Everyone’s invited. Please come on down City hall.”
