DOJ requests access to Jasper, McDonald County 2020 election equipment

The Department of Justice recently contacted a couple of local county clerks in an effort to inspect the machines they used in the November 2020 election.

Jasper County Clerk Charlie Davis says even if he had that equipment, he would not have let the federal authorities touch it. “The law prevents me and prohibits me from allowing somebody touch our machines. Nobody’s allowed touch it, whether it’s one side or the other, depending on the political party.”

“We have purchased and replaced and upgraded the machines because we want to make sure that they’re faster for the 2024 election. But even if I did have the machines, it is against the law for me to allow anybody touch machines other than myself and maybe our poll workers,” added Davis. “In the state of Colorado, an individual is spending nine years in prison because after the 2020 election, they allowed some people to have access to the machines. And I’m not going to go to jail for anybody. So I’m going to follow what the law says.”

Davis tells Newstalk KZRG that they became disinterested when he told them they had gotten rid of those machines.

“They didn’t really give me a reason why. They just said that they would like to test it. And, you know, I told them that I’m a numbers person, and I was kind of curious because Trump won Jasper county in 2016. He won Jasper county by more votes and a larger percentage in 2020, and then he won the 2024 election by even more votes and a larger percentage. So I’m just trying to scratch my head, trying to figure out why somebody would want to look at our machines and mess around with our machines, etc..”

The Missouri Independent reports the federal authorities also reached out to McDonald County Clerk Jessica Cole to allow the DOJ to “access, physically inspect and perhaps take physical custody” of election equipment made by Dominion Voting Systems that was used in the November 2020 election.

Davis, who still uses Dominion machines, said he knows there are some people who question the integrity of the 2020 election.

“It’s almost like they’re just trying to fish for something to prove something that happened five years ago. That, number one, there’s nothing we could do about it if there was an issue. But I don’t think there was,” added Davis. “I do believe that there were some election issues in 2020, but it wasn’t machines. I think it was people doing bad things. It was legislators doing bad things in the state, secretaries of state doing things that they shouldn’t do. Not the machines. The machines are just counting dots.”
