Anderson man arrested after alleged DUI pursuit in Joplin

A man from Anderson, Missouri, faces several charges after a police pursuit ended in a crash in Joplin Tuesday afternoon.

Joplin Police say an officer was on patrol near 2nd Street and Gray Avenue when he recognized a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

When the officer attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, it fled from the officer at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle pursuit went in a southbound direction towards 7th Street where the driver of the stolen vehicle, 31-year-old Donny Ray Cook, collided with another vehicle, causing minor damage.

Cook continued to flee in the vehicle from pursuing officers westbound on 7th Street.

At the intersection of 7th and Schifferdecker, the stolen vehicle entered the intersection and collided with another vehicle which caused both vehicles to become disabled. Cook was transported to a local medical facility.

The other parties involved in the crashes declined medical treatment.

Following the pursuit, a loaded .380 pistol was located in Cook’s possession.

Criminal charges have been submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office on Cook for the following violations: D.W.I.-Drugs (habitual offender), tampering 1st degree, felony resisting arrest, driving while revoked, felon in possession of a firearm, felony stealing, and Valentine’s Law.
