Parsons Police arrest man on allegations of rape
On August 26, 2025, at approximately 9:39 a.m., the Parsons Police Department received a report from a female victim alleging that she had been sexually assaulted at a residence in Parsons the previous day.
Based on the report, officers sought and were granted two search warrants by a Labette County District Court Judge.
The first warrant authorized the search of the residence of identified suspect, Kenneth Akkerman while the second allowed for the collection of DNA evidence from Akkerman.
At approximately 4:26 p.m. on August 26, Parsons Police officers executed the search warrant at the residence. Akkerman was detained without incident and secured while investigators conducted the search. Officers collected evidence from the residence, including items from the master bedroom. Following the execution of the residence warrant, Akkerman was transported to the Parsons Police Department where he was advised of his constitutional rights. The suspect agreed to an interview and was subsequently taken into custody on allegations of rape.
Later that evening, a second search warrant was executed, authorizing the collection of DNA samples from Akkerman.
The case remains under active investigation. Due to the sensitive nature of the allegations, the victim’s identity will not be released.
The suspect remains in custody pending further legal proceedings. The Parsons Police Department is working closely with the Labette County Attorney’s Office on the case. As of August 29, 2025, his bond was set at $1,000,000.00 in this case for two counts of Rape and one count of Aggravated Criminal Sodomy.
Akkerman has a long history of criminal activity and is a registered Sex Offender stemming from a 2007 conviction in Montgomery County for electronic solicitation of a child. He was also convicted in Labette County in 2021 for Aggravated Battery.
This continues to be an on-going investigation, and citizens are encouraged to “See It, Hear It, Report It.” All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
