State senator Jill Carter wants 24 hour period to read bills before voting on them

State senator Jill Carter on the KZRG Morning News Watch said she is working on giving legislators a chance to read a bill before voting on it
According to Carter: “A lot of the conservatives were working in unison to try to get a transparency rule change in the Senate that would allow us 24 hours to read a bill and well, that we didn’t get that done. It’s something they’ve been able to do in Washington, but we haven’t been able to do it here in our state.”
There is a reason the push for a 24 hour period to read bills before voting on them failed last session.
State senator Jill Carter told Newstalk KZRG
“Well, part of the problem is we have conflicting interests. Which is the problem with politics and governance right now. And which is why you see all these political spins because nobody’s really willing to come out and say, listen, we have such a healthy distrust and we should have a healthy distrust in our politicians.”
Carter continued: “But at the same time, the truth has to matter. And so when I’m on the phone talking to all of these taxing entities, right. Law enforcement and even our, even our House reps talking about the reality of what’s going on, we all have to be willing to sit down at the table and work to the benefit of what our community needs.”
Carter plans to try again in the next session.
