Motorcycle rider in custody following pursuit in southeast Kansas

Last night, the Labette County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a Suzuki motorcycle that was westbound on US-400 at a high rate of speed.

After entering Crawford County, deputies in Labette County discontinued their pursuit.

A deputy with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office located the motorcycle traveling northbound on K-7 Highway north of Cherokee at approximately 80mph and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled. With virtually no traffic and ideal road conditions, the deputy initiated a pursuit.

The pursuit went east towards Pittsburg, through town on Centennial and out into eastern Crawford County, where the road conditions deteriorated to a point where it was unsafe for both the rider and the deputies to continue pursuing.

Approximately 45 minutes later, a deputy patrolling near Arma, Kansas located the motorcycle once again traveling at a high rate of speed north on US-69. The deputy attempted another traffic stop, but the vehicle fled east into the city of Arma.

East of Arma, the motorcycle rider failed to negotiate the curve at E. 640 and N. 240th and struck a trash can.

The driver was taken into custody without further incident and checked by Crawford County EMS. He was identified as 18-year-old Aidan Carmack of Kansas City.

Carmack refused transport by EMS and was booked into the Crawford County Jail on multiple felony charges.
