Women’s self defense class August 23rd

A women’s self defense class is coming to the Billingsly Student Center at MSSU on Saturday, August 23rd, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM.  Doors open at 10 AM.

It is presented by the Kiwanis Club of Joplin.

Marta Schroeder tells Newstalk KZRG that women of all ages need the training:

“If you are attacked or threatened, adrenaline hits, you’ve got to have an immediate response. And that’s where this is going to help. With the take defense training, women are going to learn how to respond to different types of attacks and also how to be aware of your surroundings and learn to avoid surroundings that could be dangerous.”

Marta went on to say:

“It’s very important for, as we said, women from 12 to 90 because young girls are very much at risk of being abused, being attacked, being threatened and senior citizens, I count myself as one, not 90 yet. But we as well are at risk. We’re considered easy targets. So it’s important to learn those skills and how to protect yourself.”
