MSSU appoints Executive Director of International Education

JOPLIN, MO — Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Rebecca Shriver as executive director of international education, effective August 1, 2025. Shriver has over 14 years of experience in higher education, including seven years as a dedicated history professor at MSSU.

Since joining the university in 2018, Shriver has been instrumental in advancing MSSU’s mission in global education. Her leadership includes directing study abroad programs in Spain, France, Portugal, Australia and Czech Republic. She has also served as a visiting faculty member at an international partner institution and has contributed to multiple global engagement committees.

“I’m honored to take on this role, which reflects a core part of MSSU’s identity. Our international programs are a point of pride, and I’m committed to ensuring that every student, faculty member, and community partner is aware of the incredible global opportunities available here,” she said. “I am committed to helping everyone on our campus experience the transformative power of international education.”

Shriver holds a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master of Arts in History from Florida State University, as well as a certificate in European Union Studies. She has several publications dealing with European organizations that sought to prevent the Second World War by building communities that emphasized the benefits of international cooperation.

Her academic expertise in international organizations, combined with a deep passion for broadening students’ worldviews, uniquely positions her to lead and grow MSSU’s international initiatives.
