Lamar city leaders investigating black water, dead fish in Honey Creek

Lamar City leaders are looking into problems at Honey Creek in  that Barton County community.

A posting on the city’s web page says city staffers noticed black standing water and a large number of dead fish in the waterway which runs through a city park.

A subsequent posting now says those looking into the problem have concluded the situation is the result of a temporary sewer overflow .

Today, with the guidance of the Missouri Dept of Natural Resources staffers are working to drain and clean the creek.

People have been asked to stay away from the area affected and not remove any fish from the water.
