Joplin police investigating death of 9-month-old baby

A death investigation is underway in Joplin after an infant passed away at the Oxford Apartments on East 34th Street.

The 911 “unknown trouble” call came in around 8:40 am Thursday morning.

At the scene, Joplin emergency responders discovered that a 9-month-old was unconscious and not breathing.

Despite rescue efforts by the emergency responders, the child was pronounced deceased at the scene.

At this time, Joplin Police investigators are still on the scene and continue to investigate this incident. Investigators are working with the Coroner’s Office to have an autopsy scheduled.

Currently, this is considered an open and active investigation. No names will be released at this time.
