New MO law to ban foreign money in state elections

A new state law is set to begin next month that will ban foreign money in Missouri elections.

Non-U.S. citizens cannot donate to Missouri candidate campaigns but they can for ballot measures.

Washington state Senator Ben Brown says this will change on August 28th when his bipartisan bill officially becomes law.

“All these groups that are supported by foreign funds that are coming in and really just hijacking our electoral process in order to push their own agendas,” says Brown.

His bill will close this loophole and cites Missouri ranking third nationally in the amount of foreign dollars given to ballot measure campaigns — totaling 13-million since 2014.
