Gas line ruptured in Carthage; repairs underway

A four-inch gas main was ruptured by workers on the west side of Carthage around 8 this morning.

Repairs of the commercial line are underway.

Carthage Fire Chief Jason Martin told NewsTalk KZRG the situation was helped by Mother Nature.

“The wind direction and speed were beneficial to us because it helped dissipate the gas before it could get into high-concentrated areas,” Chief Martin said.

He said several low-lying areas including storm drains were checked to eliminate the possibility of gas collecting and potentially exploding.

The line break happened on West Airport Drive in Carthage. Chief Martin says there have been no major interruptions in traffic on that side of town.
