Over $600K to modernize elevators at Joplin City Hall

Over six hundred thousand dollars.  That’s the cost of modernizing 3 elevators at Joplin City Hall.

Mayor Keenan Cortez told Newstalk KZRG:

“There's three elevators in city hall and we've been down to just two of them for a long time now. So we've tried to fix the other one, but it's so old. You know, our Newman Building is really, really old. It became difficult to find parts for. And when we did get parts, they wouldn't actually fit in the older elevator.”

Mayor Cortez went on to say:

“So it came time for us to upgrade. It's time to modernize and get something newer, better, more reliable and safer in an elevator down at City Hall. We have to get up to the fifth floor for the council chambers.”
