Dedication Saturday for monument to Union soldiers who fought at Battle of Carthage

A monument to the Union soldiers who fought at the Battle of Carthage will be dedicated  at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2025,  11 a.m., the anniversary of the 1861 battle.

The public is invited.

The monument, located at the northeast corner of the Carthage square, was made possible through the financial support and advice provided by Battle of Carthage, Inc; the K.D. and M.L. Steadley Memorial Trust; the Robert S. Thurman American Legion, Post 13; Phelps Camp, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War; Sherwood / Rader Farm Civil War Memorial Park; and local residents interested in commemorating our Civil War heritage.

Jasper County Commissioners for facilitated placement of the monument.

West Chestnut Monuments assisted on the design of the monument.

Members of Battle of Carthage, of Phelps Camp, and of the American Legion will be in uniform
