Ozark, MO – Christian County Prosecuting Attorney Kristen Tuohy filed criminal charges against 40-year-old Garrett Grimm Cleaver of Webb City in connection with the June 30, 2025, head on collision that killed Deputy Sheriff Michael “Mike” Adams, 52, and his wife, Ashley Adams.

Charged Offenses:

• Two counts of Aggravated fleeing a stop or detention resulting in death – (Class A felony)
• One count of Aggravated fleeing a stop or detention resulting in physical injury – (Class B felony)
• One count of Assault 2nd degree – (Class D felony)

These charges stem from a collision on Melton Road near Highlandville, Missouri, that occurred at approximately 8:50 p.m. on June 30, 2025.Deputy Adams and his wife were traveling as a passenger and driver, respectively, when an eastbound vehicle—allegedly driven by Garrett Grimm Cleaver crossed the center line, colliding head on after fleeing from a traffic stop by another deputy. Tragically, both Deputy Adams and his wife died at the scene; their infant grandchild was also injured and hospitalized.

“Monday’s crash was a senseless tragedy that claimed the lives of an outstanding deputy and a beloved community member,” said Sheriff Brad Cole. “We are continuing with a thorough investigation, and these charges reflect our commitment to pursuing justice for the Adams family.” “This is another case where the suspect’s criminal history in multiple States reflects a failure on the part of the criminal justice system to keep a dangerous person off the streets and to protect innocent citizens,” said Sheriff Brad Cole.
