Joplin Gears Up for June Third Thursday: A Celebration of Community and Culture

JOPLIN, Mo. — Downtown Joplin is set to come alive tonight as the city hosts its monthly Third Thursday event, a tradition that draws thousands to Main Street.
From 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the heart of Joplin will transform into a vibrant festival featuring local artisans, live music, entertainment, and a diverse array of food options. Organized by the Downtown Joplin Alliance, this June edition promises to be a highlight of the 18th season, with a theme of “You Belong Celebration” to honor community inclusivity.
The event will close Main Street to traffic, creating a pedestrian-friendly zone between 1st and 7th Streets. Attendees can expect over 100 vendors showcasing handmade crafts, artwork, and unique goods, alongside performances on multiple stages.
Families can look forward to kid-friendly attractions, including bounce houses and water activities to beat the summer heat.
Vintage car enthusiasts will enjoy a cruise on the 100 block, while art lovers can explore pop-up galleries at Urban Art Gallery, Spiva Center for the Arts, and Local Color.
With temperatures expected to climb, organizers encourage attendees to stay hydrated and wear light clothing.
Vendors, volunteers, and sponsors are still needed for the remaining 2025 season. Vendors must apply by the first Monday of June and purchase a $5 Special Event License from City Hall.
Volunteers can sign up for set-up (3:00–5:30 p.m.) or tear-down (8:00–9:30 p.m.) shifts, assisting with tasks like vendor coordination and cleanup.
