“Bach to Bluegrass” concert to benefit young string players

“Bach to Bluegrass,” a benefit concert for young string players, is planned for 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.
The community is invited to celebrate the power of music to connect generations and cultures at this genre-spanning fundraising concert supporting the annual Pittsburg State University Summer String Camp.
Tickets will be $10, cash or check only, at the door.
The unique evening will feature a rich blend of Baroque, bluegrass, Latin American, and Korean-inspired works, performed by a string orchestra of talented area musicians and Pitt State faculty.
The concert will include:
“Bach’s Concerto for Two Harpsichords in C Minor, BWV 1060,” featuring Susan Marchant and Devon Bowling, harpsichords
“Strings and Threads” by Mark O’Connor, featuring Ramiro Miranda, violin
“Suite Latinoamericana” by Daniel Luzko, featuring Isaac Hernandez, piano, and Jewel Lunday, flute
“Korean Simple Suite” by Han-Ki Kim
“Amazing Grace with Bach,” a powerful fusion of tradition and soul
“Deserted Garden” by Florence Price by Brian Amor, violin
In honor of Juneteenth, the concert will feature music by Price, a groundbreaking Black female composer whose music speaks to resilience, beauty, and history.
