Robert S. Thurman American Legion Post 13 provides at least four locations.
There are two in Joplin: One is near the General Terminal of the Joplin Regional Airport at 5497 Dennis Weaver Drive. The other at 8th and Joplin Streets near Memorial Hall.
In Webb City, the Legion/VFW flag drop off box is located at 900 Main Street.
Members of Post 13 will pick up the flags on a regular basis and store them so they can be properly disposed of during their Annual Flag Retirement Ceremony on Flag Day, June 14.
In Carthage, flags can be dropped off outside the County Clerk’s Office on the the east side of the Jasper County Courthouse.
In Neosho, flags are accepted at the American Legion at 221 N. College, VFW Post 4142 at 1412 Waldo Hatler Memorial Drive and at the Neosho Recycle Center at 4700 Howard Bush Drive.
Henkel’s Ace Hardware locations in Joplin and Webb City have flag drop off boxes.
Several other retain stores also accept retired flags.
Any area post office accepts old U.S flags for proper retirement during normal business hours.
