Missouri Capitol to host Army wreath laying ceremony

The Missouri Capitol in Jefferson City will host an Army 250th Birthday Wreath Laying Ceremony this week.

The event Thursday at the state capitol is one of hundreds across the country marking the Army’s 250th.

This one is organized by Fort Leonard Wood and the Daughters of the American Revolution and will feature Fort Leonard Wood soldiers dressed in authentic period uniforms from the Revolutionary War to present.

Fort Leonard Wood has its own unique history, starting as a training post more than 80 years ago.

It currently trains nearly 80-thousand military and civilians each year. The event Thursday starts at 12:30, in the Rotunda of the State Capitol.

Fort Leonard Wood trains the largest Marine Corps Detachment and Air Force Squadron on any Army installation as well as a large Navy construction detachment.
