Jasper County property values go up, what you need to know

Property valuations in Jasper County have gone up.

Jasper County Assessor Lisa Perry says their property reassessments happen every odd year.

Listen to her full interview with the KZRG Morning Newswatch or read more details below:

She explained to Newstalk KZRG that the county must ensure property values fall within 90-110% of fair market value, highlighting that recent market conditions, particularly during and after COVID-19, necessitated adjustments to align with state expectations.

“The state told me I was at 69% at that point, which I knew I was undervalued. And I mean even raising it, you know, the 15%, I’m still undervalue,” said Perry. “But luckily the state recommended the 15% because had I done what I was supposed to do, it would have been 30. And I definitely did not want to do that, nor would any other assessor want to put that kind of an impact on homeowners.”

She says there are a lot of concerns from citizens but that they are here to help.

“If you feel your home is overvalued, then by all means you need to come to us because maybe there possibly is an error. We do not go in a home, you know, so maybe we have something wrong. I mean, we are human, so we do make errors and you know, we can correct those, but they have to come to us within a certain time frame so we can take care of that.”

Perry adds that you should be or have already should have gotten a pamphlet in the mail for the full details.
