Swimming safety tips for kids to prevent drownings

The outdoor summer fun season is here.  

Dustin Lunow with the Joplin Fire Department tells Newstalk KZRG if you have an outdoor pool:

“Be sure you keep your eye on those little ones. They will run straight to that pool. It needs to be locked. It needs to be secured where they can’t get in there without adult supervision. And be sure that if you have kids in the pool, that you always have an adult right there with them at all times, things can change very rapidly.”

Lunow went on to say:  “Drowning does not look like what it shows on tv usually. It’s a very quiet type of event. Not a lot of splashing. So the thought that it’s going to catch your attention or you’re going to turn around and see it is statistically inaccurate.”
