May is “Motorcycle Awareness” month in Missouri

May is “motorcycle awareness” month in Missouri.

On the KZRG Morning Newswatch, Corporal Sam Carpenter of the Missouri State Highway Patrol says:

“May usually is always motorcycle awareness month just simply because the weather gets nice, people get the two wheels out and enjoy the day. For our four wheel friends, you know, the biggest thing we ask people to do is look twice.

You see those signs everywhere, Motorcycles, they’re small and they’re moving quicker than they look like they’re moving. So when you’re pulling out into a roadway, check both ways, sit there for a second, check both ways again.”

Corporal Carpenter went on to tell Newstalk KZRG:

“We want to carry out “motorcycle awareness month” to 12 months a year. You know, just don’t say “I’m going to really focus on being safe in May, but the other 11 months I’m not.” We want you to be concerned about it year round because there are people, there’s some people that’s the only way to get around on a motorcycle. So they may be riding their motorcycle in December. You know, you always have to be looking out for each other.”
