Barton County Sheriff’s office says woman’s gunshot wound appeared self-inflicted

On May 6th, 2025 at approximately 22:03 hours, Deputies with the Barton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an address on NW 32nd Road in the Burgess community.

Dispatch reported to Deputies responding that a 43-year-old female was suffering from a gunshot wound.

Once Deputies were on scene, they located the female with a single gunshot wound, which appeared ot be self-inflicted.  Deputies and EMS quickly determined the injury to be fatal.  Once Coroner McManis arrived on the scene, the female was pronounced deceased at that time.

Next of kin has been notified at this time.  As of now, the name of the victim is being withheld as this is an ongoing investigation.
