O-GAH-PAH MMIP Support Walk bring attention to “Lauria and Ashley’s Law”

The O-GAH-PAH Missing or Murdered Indigenous Persons Support Walk took place Tuesday morning in downtown Quapaw.
The purpose of the walk is to raise awareness about the issue of missing and murdered indigenous people and to show community support.
In addition, the walk is bringing attention to the recently passed Oklahoma “Lauria and Ashley’s Law” that adds accessory to murder in the first or second degree to the list of crimes that would require an offender to serve 85 percent of their prison sentence before being eligible for consideration for parole.
The bill is named after Lauria Bible and Ashley Freeman from Welch, who were kidnapped, tortured, raped and killed on New Year’s Eve 1999. Their bodies have not been recovered. Ashley’s parents, Danny and Kathy Freeman, were shot to death during the crime with their remains found in their burned mobile home.
