Joplin City Council to consider MOU with ESC for low income housing

The Joplin City Council will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, May 5th in regular session in Council Chambers in City Hall at 602 S. Main Street in Joplin.

Items on the agenda include a cooperative agreement between the City of Joplin and the Economic Security Corporation for the provision of lower income housing.

The Economic Security Corporation has acquired the property located at 2008 S. Sergeant Avenue, also known as the Old Freeman Hospital. Upon demolition of the current structure, this agreement will allow the City to assist in the provision of lower income housing at this location through its Home Investment Partnership Program Funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The Council will also hear a presentation on the subject of the Joplin Sports Authority, including information on teams, events and sponsors.

On the consent agenda, he City Council will consider measures that would allow the city to purchase several plots of land for cleanup and structure removal.

The meeting gets underway at 6 p.m. Monday night.  The public is invited to attend.
