Jasper County man charged with illegally shooting, killing black bear

A man from Reeds, Missouri, faces several charges after he allegedly illegally shot and killed a black bear in early December.

Investigators say 47-year-old Jimmy Wayne Lee was trespassing in an area in rural Jasper County when he fatally shot a black bear while hunting deer.

Lee later took a selfie with the bear and sent it two multiple people.

He said he didn’t notify the Missouri Department of Conservation because he's a convicted felon and is not supposed to be around guns.

He now faces four charges:

  • Unlawful Possession Of A Firearm
  • Illegally Possess Or Transport Deer Or Parts Thereof
  • Import, Transport, Sell, Purchase, Take Or Possess Black Bear/Elk/Parts Inconsistent With Rules Of The Code
  • Fish/Hunt/Trap/Retrieve Wildlife From Private Land W/O Permission From Owner/Lessee
