Body found in trunk of burned vehicle in Barry County; investigation underway

The following news release was sent to the news media by Barry County Sheriff, Danny Boyd: 

"On March 20, 2025 at approximately 3:00 p.m., the Barry County Sheriff's Office was notified that there was a body in the trunk of a burnt vehicle, that had been towed and stored at Schrader's Towing in Shell Knob, MO.

The victim has been identified, by DNA, as Marvin Lance McCullough, age 55 from Aurora, MO.

The vehicle was registered to Mr. McCullough's mother, Carolyn Gentry.

The vehicle was originally towed from Farm Road 1170, Verona, MO are where it had been set on fire.

Mrs. Gentry reported that her son was in possession of her car, but she had not seen him in several days.

The Barry County sheriff's Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol and Missouri State Fire Marshall's Office are currently investigating this incident.
