Two from Neosho charged with murder after fentanyl death

UPDATE: Madison Stonecipher has been taken into custody over the weekend.
Two people from Neosho have been charged with murder relating to a fentanyl death.
31-year-old Gatlin Pennington and 24-year-old Madison Stonecipher are both facing 2nd-degree murder and 1st-degree drug trafficking charges in the death of 39-year-old Jesse Dunn, who passed away in late November from an overdose.
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office says Dunn had been given 3 grams of fentanyl in exchange for a Cricut machine.
The investigation found Pennington and Stonecipher were aware that the narcotics that they had given to Dunn may have contained xylazine.
Pennington was taken into custody on December 2nd for possessing 13 grams of fentanyl and remains in the Jasper County Jail.
“I am proud of the outstanding work that was done by our Detectives as well as the cooperation and assistance that we received from Neosho PD, Joplin PD, and ODET. Because of the outstanding work and cooperation, we were able to present charges to the Newton County Prosecutor, and charges were filed,” said Newton County Sheriff Matt Stewart.
