Pittsburg elementary put on brief lockdown after "swatting" call

A Pittsburg, Kansas, elementary school was put on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after a "swatting" call.

The Crawford County Sheriff's Office and Pittsburg Schools say around 1:30pm, Meadowlark Elementary received an anonymous phone call threatening in nature.

Immediately following the call, Meadowlark was placed in a full lockdown and authorities were contacted.

USD 250 placed all other district school buildings under a soft lockdown as a precautionary measure.

Local law enforcement officials were on site within minutes of the call but learned it was a fake, prank phone call and not a legitimate threat of any kind.

All buildings were released from lockdown around 2pm.
