Explosion rips through Hutchinson, Kansas

Emergency workers and citizens are dealing with the aftermath of an explosion took place in Hutchinson, Kansas just after 9:30 Saturday morning.

The initial explosion, attributed to a gas main, resulted in a massive burst of flames.

There was no advance warning.

Residents were evacuated from Avenue A through F in the city as first responders dealt with the problems.

As of Saturday night, the evacuation area was reduced to Avenues C through F and Walnut to Adams streets in the city.

Kansas Gas works will need to visit each resident to restore gas service to homes in the community.

In the mean time, the Salvation Army at 7th and Walnut  will serve people temporarily displaced by the explosion.
