12″+ of snow expected across portions of the Joplin metro

Joplin and surrounding communities of the four-state area are in the bullseye of a major winter storm that could bring the most single day snowfall we’ve seen since February 1, 2011, when more 20″ of snow and blizzard conditions shut the area down for a few days.
Some of us could see up to 16 inches of snow with this system on Tuesday. Nearly everyone is expected to see at least 6 or 7 inches.
The heaviest snow will occur from late Tuesday morning west into Tuesday evening impacting the evening
commute Tuesday. With the cold conditions and expected snowfall amounts travel impacts will continue beyond Wednesday morning after the snow ends.
A Winter Storm Warning will remain in effect from midnight tonight until 6AM Wednesday for the entire area.
