Altoona, Kansas man sentenced to 68 months for sexual exploitation of a child

INDEPENDENCE, Kan.  — A man from Altoona, Kansas was sentenced to state prison for 68 months on Tuesday for his conviction on nine counts of sexual exploitation of a child.

Mickey Joe Callarman Jr., 45,  was given a 68-month sentence  in Montgomery County District Court.

The Montgomery County Chronicle reported that Callarman was charged with nine counts of sexual exploitation of child by possessing sexually explicit images of children less than 18 years of age. He was found guilty of nine counts in a bench trial that was held in June 2024.

Callarman was sentenced to to 34 months in prison on the first two counts, which are to run consecutively. He also was sentenced to 34 months on the third through ninth counts, that will run concurrently to the first two counts.

Callarman also was ordered to register as a lifetime sexual offender and have 24 months of post release supervision.

Callarman  reportedly was arrested in February 2019 after the discovery of pornographic images of a child on his personal device while he was living Montgomery County.

Callarman reportedly admitted the images were taken of a family member two years prior, when the child was age 8.

Other sexually explicit images of other children who ranged in age from 11 to 14 were also discovered.
