Officer Involved Shooting Decision Released by U.S. Attorney’s Office

MIAMI, Okla. – The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma has completed their review of evidence in the Dec. 27, 2024, shooting of a burglary suspect involving a Miami Police Officer.
U.S. Attorney Clinton J. Johnson notified the City of Miami’s Interim Police Chief Hicks by letter regarding his decision not to pursue federal criminal charges against the officer involved.
After reviewing all the evidence, Johnson determined the shooting was justified under the circumstances.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office received evidence from the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Jan. 17, 2025, due to federal jurisdiction in the case because the officer is an Indian and the shooting occurred within Indian Country in the Northern District of Oklahoma.
