Vinita man killed in crash south of Galena

A man from Vinita, Oklahoma, was killed in a crash south of Galena, Kansas, on Tuesday.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says it happened around 11:52am, at the intersection of K-26 and the Old Highway 166.

79-year-old Joseph Monroe Reed was on Hwy 166 and stopped at a stop sign, before then failing to yield to a tow truck that was traveling south on K-26.

Reed was killed in the collision.

His passenger, 73-year-old Cynthia Kay Conrad, of Miami, Oklahoma, suffered serious injury.

The tow truck driver was not injured.

This intersection has seen dozens of crashes since June, when the Highway 400 realignment/expansion project was completed and changed the intersection from a 4-way stop to a 2-way stop.
