Infant released from Children's Mercy Hospital; Newtonia man faces child abuse charges

28-year-old Jordan Boggess of  Newtonia has a court date scheduled for December 13th.

Newton County prosecutors have  accused Boggess of abusing the nine-month-old baby son of his girlfriend in September.

Springfield's KY3 reports the "Baby Waylon" - now 10 months old -  has been released from a Kansas City Hospital but his injuries will affect his life forever

According to the probable cause affidavit, Boggess told deputies he tossed the boy in the air in an attempt to comfort him. Boggess  told them the baby fell to the ground when he failed to catch him and then he “bear hugged” him until he quit screaming.

Boggess is charged with abuse or neglect of a child with serious physical injury.

Medical personnel at Children’s Mercy told Newton County Detectives that the child had “abusive head trauma” as well as other injuries. They stated the child suffered from physical abuse.

The child arrived at the Kansas City hospital in critical condition.

He was released on October 24th.
