Quapaw Nation not pleased with depiction in “Tulsa King”
The Quapaw Nation is isn’t pleased with the depiction of the tribal nation in a crime series starring Sylvester Stallone.
A statement released by the Quapaw Nation stated:
“It has come to the attention of the Quapaw Nation Business Committee that Season 2, Episode 4 of the Paramount+ television show Tulsa King introduced characters from the Quapaw Nation including tribal leaders who were portrayed as being involved in a criminal conspiracy related to marijuana and wind energy.
However, the Quapaw Nation was neither consulted nor given the opportunity to approve or reject the use of our sovereign nation’s name or portrayal of our people. The Quapaw Nation opposes any use of its name or purported portrayal of our people without the Nation’s consent. This constitutes cultural appropriation and we are offended at the context in which the Nation is portrayed. We call on the producers, directors, writers, actors, and distributors of Tulsa King to cease their misrepresentation of the Quapaw Nation as well as their disparaging and disrespectful portray of our Nation, people, and our heritage.
The Nation encourages writers, producers, and viewers to learn more about the Quapaw Nation, its rich history and future plans at https://quapawnation.com/
