First responders are being praised for their quick action after a man from Joplin was pinned under a log after he went overboard while kayaking.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says it happened at 3 pm Saturday on James River, near Baker Hole Road, about a mile north of Galena, Missouri.

72-year-old Thomas Forehand was pinned against a tree in the river, which caused him to fall overboard. He then got pinned underneath a log.

Emergency crews arrived and were able to get Forehand out of the water and into an ambulance that took him to a Springfield hospital with serious injuries.
