Missouri Republicans submit new list of delegates for presidential convention

Controversy over the selection of delegates for the presidential convention is exposing serious infighting in the Republican Party in Missouri.
Last week, the state convention in Springfield demanded a new list of delegates be submitted because they said those previously selected – including Republican gubernatorial candidates Bill Eigel and Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft – were not properly submitted.
The Republican Party had given Missouri Republicans a deadline of 4 p.m. last Friday to turn in a new list.
The Missouri Independent reports that a new slate of 27 at-large delegates and 27 alternates was turned in by the deadline.
The Independent story says the newly-submitted delegates include former U.S. Rep. Billy Long, state Sen. Mary Elizabeth Coleman and Missouri Right to Life Executive Director Susan Klein and others who were originally included in a slate that had been prepared but never placed into nomination by state party Chairman Nick Myers.
The Republican National Convention is slated to begin on July 15 in Milwaukee.
