Burlison proposes to create a tax deduction for long-term care

A Missouri Congressman wants to create a tax deduction for long-term care.

Southwest Missouri Congressman Eric Burlison is sponsoring legislation to create a tax deduction for long-term care insurance.

The bill would allow the cost of insurance premiums to be tax deductible for people who purchase their own long-term health insurance coverage instead of “relying on the state and federal governments for their care.”

In a statement, Burlison, a Republican, says the federal government should encourage people to be “self-reliant” instead of leaning on government programs.
