Car wipes out on 171 inside Carl Junction; driver and 5-year-old passenger injured

An accident at 12:55 p.m. Saturday on Highway 171 inside the Carl Junction city limits injured two people, one of them a 5-year-old boy.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the crash occurred when a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Andrew J. Perdew of Bronson, Kansas, traveled off the east side of 171, hit a pole and became airborne, struck the ground again and hit another post.

The car then overturned and came to rest on its wheels.

Perdew and a 5-year old boy in the car both suffered moderate injuries.

They were taken to a Joplin hospital for treatment.
