Poultry biosecurity reminder

Spring is right around the corner!

If you’re considering buying poultry this spring, remember biosecurity is a top priority in protecting Missouri flocks from disease, and Missouri citizens from illness.

Backyard poultry, such as chicken, ducks, geese, and turkeys, often carry harmful germs. You can get sick from touching backyard poultry, or anything in their environment, and then touching your mouth or eating without washing your hands first.

Follow these tips from the MDA animal health team to protect your birds from diseases such as highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).
