Columbia, Missouri poised to become LGBTQ sanctuary city

After a meeting tonight, Missouri could have another "sanctuary city."
The Columbia, Missouri City Council is working to finalize an LGBTQ sanctuary ordinance for that community.
The council meeting to consider that proposal is slated for tonight.
If approved, Columbia would become the second such city in Missouri after Kansas City declared itself one last May.
The ordinance in Columbia reportedly deprioritizes local enforcement of laws that impact the LGBTQ community, including any laws that restrict care for the transgender community or laws that could ban public restroom access to transgender individuals or enforce penalties against the medical community for providing care to transgender individuals.
The ordinance reportedly was first proposed by two Democratic Socialist groups at a meeting last November.
