Joplin Parks and Rec now hiring lifeguards for the summer

(City of Joplin) — The Joplin Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce that we are actively seeking qualified individuals to join the City’s Aquatic Team and contribute to a safe and enjoyable experience for our community members.
Applications are now open for lifeguards interested in staffing Joplin’s Aquatic Centers at Schifferdecker Park and Cunningham Park. As part of our commitment to safety and community engagement, the City will cover expenses related to lifeguard training, licensing fee, uniform, and safety equipment.
To qualify as a lifeguard, applicants must be at least 16 years of age by the date of hire. They should demonstrate the ability to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes using only their legs, complete a timed event involving swimming, diving, and retrieving a ten-pound object, and pass both a written test and the skills tests. A pre-employment drug screening and criminal history check are mandatory for all positions. Some weekends, evenings, and holidays may be required for lifeguards to work. The pay is $13.92 per hour.
Applications are being accepted at Joplin City Hall, 602 South Main Street, in the Human Resources Department on the 1st Floor, or conveniently online at http://www.joplinmo.org/jobs.
“We are eager to welcome dedicated individuals to our Aquatic Team,” said Dawn Jones, Recreation Coordinator “With the City covering the expenses for lifeguard training this year, we hope to encourage community members to join the City in offering a safe and enjoyable swim season at Schifferdecker and Cunningham Aquatic Centers.”
