Monett police rescue man submerged in icy water

Police in Monett, Missouri, rescued a man that was trapped in his truck that became partially submerged in an icy pond Thursday night.

They were called to the Monett City South Park to check the well-being of a 20-year-old from Mount Vernon.

But when officers tried to speak with the man, he fled in his pickup, driving into the ice-covered South Park pond.

He was unable to get out of the truck because it became partially submerged in the ice on the surface of the pond.

First responders were able to break a window and pull him out just moments before the truck was fully submerged under the icy water.

He was uninjured and transported to a hospital for evaluation.
