Baxter man given half-century prison sentence for rape

A man from Baxter Springs, Kansas, who was found guilty of child rape, has been sentenced to a half-century in prison.

40-year-old Jeremy Shrout was sentenced to 50 years of imprisonment during a sentencing hearing held earlier today in Cherokee County District Court.

In November, a jury found Shrout guilty of three counts of rape and one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child between 2019 and 2021.

Shrout is being held in the Cherokee County Jail pending transfer to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
