Pedestrian dies from injuries after being hit on 32nd Street last week

A fatal pedestrian accident in Joplin.

Police tell Newstalk KZRG the incident happened on Thursday, January 11th, when officers responded to E. 32nd Street and S. Finley Avenue for a collision involving a pedestrian.

Their investigation found that a vehicle traveling west on 32nd, in the outside lane, struck a pedestrian crossing 32nd in the middle of the block between Finley and Park.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital by ambulance in serious condition. 59-year-old Wiliam T. Heskett III, of Joplin, died of his injuries on Sunday.

There were no injuries to any of the occupants in the vehicle. Police say the driver of the car did stop and cooperate with police on the night of the accident.

The Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team in conducting the investigation into this incident.

This marks the second fatal vehicle versus pedestrian crash of 2024 in the City of Joplin.
