Early-morning accident on I-44 leaves driver from Carthage in serious condition

A one-vehicle accident early this (Saturday) morning on I-44 three miles west of Mt. Vernon in Lawrence County  has left a driver from southwest Missouri in serious condition.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the wreck occurred around 4:02 a.m. when an eastbound 20043 Toyota Tundra driven by 25-year-old David M. Styles of Carthage drove off the left side of the road through the median and stopped in the westbound lanes.

Styles, who suffered serious injuries, was transported to Cox South Hospital in Springfield.

Styles was cited by the Missouri State Highway Patrol for driving while intoxicated; no valid driver's license; careless and imprudent driving; failure to register; no insurance; and no seatbelt.
